Located on the border of Brazil and Argentina, the Iguaçu Falls is a spectacular set of 275 waterfalls. The Rio Iguacu (Iguassu River) is a wide quite river until it cascades over the precipice at the Gargantua do Diablo. It is all noise from there as the water creens down multiple tiers of waterfalls until it reaches the churning river below.
Because there are more waterfalls on the Argentina side, the vantage provided from the Brazil side allows you to see more of the waterfalls. Trails on the Brazil side start at the road and work their way down to the base of the waterfalls of the Gargantua do Diablo. The Brazillian trail extends onto wooden paths that lead you to the edge of the waterfalls allowing you to look from a unique vantage point and getting soaked at the same time. The trails on the Argentina side wind along the top of the cliffs with the waterfalls below. A third way to see the falls is one of the two boat expiditions that leave from either the Brazil or Argentina sides.
These waterfalls were declared a World Heritage Site in 1986.
