Queen Isabella I of Castile, alson known as Isabella the Catholic, is best know for her patronage of Columbus which led to the discovery of the New World. She also laid the groundwork for the unification of Spain.

Queen Isabella I of Castile, alson known as Isabella the Catholic, is best know for her patronage of Columbus which led to the discovery of the New World. She was a devoted Catholic and is also know for pushing the furthering of her religion by driving the Moors from Granada, expelling unconverted Jews from Spain, and establishing the Inquisition.
Together with her husband, Ferdinand of Aragon, she laid the groundwork for the unification of Spain under the rule of their grandson, Charles I of Spain.
This statue of Isabella can be found in the front courtyard of the Organization of American States building, a group devoted to bringing together the nations of the Americas to further communication and promote democracy.
