This very old roughly cut cross has been cut out of one piece of granite. It is believed to be a waymarking cross for the monks travelling from Plympton Priory to Buckfast Abbey. It is thought the cross was sited further up the lane possibly on the moor to guide the monks off the moor. It was found in 1909 being used just up the lane as a gatepost and was placed in the churchyard for safe keeping.
The cross stands at 4 ft 5 ins tall and 1ft 3ins across the arms. The cross is pre 1539 due to the Abolition of the Monasteries in that year.
The cross can be found just inside the main churchyard gate on the left hand side.
