1042 is an F351-class loco originally built for Sydney suburban trains, and ended its career as the Cardiff Workshops shunter. 1042 had been preserved at the Cardiff Workshops since retirement in 1973, but moved from to Maitland and was plinthed in a park in 1994 as seen in this photo of 1994. A weather shelter has since been erected over this locomotive. (1) Stephen Tolhurst provides an excellent history of loco 1042 on his X10 website.
