Darth Bear was part of a fund raiser for some BC Charities including Easter Seal House where Darth is located.
Easter Seal House was established in 1955 by the Lions Society of BC to provide a place for families to stay when they come to Vancouver for medical treatment. Easter Seal House was one of the first places in Vancouver for families and has grown into the largest with 55 rooms available at this facility.

Spirit Bears in the City was done in 2006 and here's how the fund raiser worked...

"Local artists, in partnership with sponsoring individuals or organizations, will create a unique design and apply it to the surface of a life size (approx. 7ft) custom formed fiberglass Spirit Bear. The Bear becomes the artist's canvas. Once the work is complete, the Spirit Bear will be displayed in prominent public spaces around the participating cities with the majority being placed in Vancouver's downtown business core. A 'Spirit Bear Trail Guide' will be created and distributed throughout participating communities.

'Spirit Bears In The City' is modeled after other successful community art projects, such as Chicago's 'Cows on Parade', Toronto's 'Moose in the City' and most recently Vancouver and Victoria's 'Orcas In The City'.

The exhibit will end with the great 'Spirit Bear Auction', a gala event where the Spirit Bears will be put on the block and auctioned to the highest bidder. A select number of Spirit Bears will be auctioned live while the remaining bears will be auctioned online. Spirit Bear auction proceeds will benefit the BC Lions Society's Easter Seal Operations and the Canucks for Kids Fund."

Most bears sold raised between $2000 and $5000. As you can see below, Darth Bear did better then average!
