This fiberglass horse reminds me of an old time Quarter Horse by the name of "Question Mark" that was born in 1937 (sired by Plaudit and our of a mare named Pepito), who sported four tall stockings like the horse located at this cache location. I used to read about him and his offspring as a horse-loving teenager.
There has been a fiberglass horse at this location for several decades. In the early 1960's local businessman Bernard Weiler and his wife Lois became interested in horses and purchased a ranch on Hwy 213 in Oregon City, where they became successful in raising running Quarter Horses. They opened a tack and clothing store at this location on McLoughlin Blvd and placed a fiberglass horse outside as advertising for the newly created V-V Western Store and Trailer Sales. Although the Weilers have long since retired and sold the store, the horse has remained.
Horses Name: I call him "Question Mark"
Background Story: For those who remember the Weilers, you may also remember the stallions who lived at their Circle W Ranch: Quarter Horses Handy Bar Dandy, Catawambus Bars and Ah Fan De and Paint stallion Dam Yankee. You may also remember Mr. Weiler riding his handsome black Tennesee Walking Horses in the Rose Parade several years, and may have watched as a portable crane (attached to the horse trailer) lowered the heavy silver-decorated parade saddle onto his patient gelding.
Those who log this Waypoint are urged to add comments about their own knowledge of horses, or fond memories of the Weiler family.
