This mile stone is sited on a section of the A388 which was bypassed when the road was widened and straighted a few years ago.

This milestone was put in place by the Callington Turnpike Trust which was formed in 1785. Paynters Cross was original the boundary of the Callington Trust. At a later date the boundary was moved up the road to Botus Fleming.
