Founded in 1782. The Revolution of 1956 was partly launched by students of this university. Many professors joined in.
Currently, there are six faculties of engineering, one for natural sciences and one for ecomonics and social sciences.

The main campus is situated on the Western side of River Danube in Budapest. Stretching between Liberty Bridge and Petofi Bridge, it is a large campus but some buildings are found even further south.
It was founded in 1782. Probably the most important historical significance of this university is that it hosted the start of the Revolution of 1956 (against Soviet rule).
