After the end of World War II the CNR or Canadian National Railway closed this branch, while expanding its link to include the communities of Sydney Mines, Florence, and Alder Point. The old rail bed was used by local farmers as a fire road and a back road to their adjoining farms. Local elderly residence also used this rail bed as a walking trail because of its level grade and easy walking.
