In times of war it seems too easy to take away the civil liberties of the minority, even when they are citizens.

In 1942, 22,000 people of Japanese ancestry, many Canadian citizens, were forcibly removed from the coast and sent to internment camps in the interior of BC, along with farms on the prairies. They were even sent as far east as Ontario.
From March to November of that year, 8000 men, women and children were held in the livestock barns here on the grounds of the PNE. All their property and possessions were sold without their consent. They were denied civil liberties until April 1st, 1947 when they were allowed to return to the coast.
The co-ordinates will take you to the Plaque that recognizes this dark part of Canadian history.
