The house is part of the Bromham Heritage Trail, a waymarked route to walk through the village.
When the Tollhouse was in use it was actually in the parish of Stagsden on the Newport Road. It is shown as such on a map of 1826. It was called the 'Stagsden Gate' and is the only remaining one in the village as there were other gates at every junction out of Bromham. Being central for access roads to Bedford, Northampton, Newport Pagnell and the north Bedfordshire villages of Stevington and Oakley, Bromham was a key junction point for tolls between the routes.
