According to the brochure, "Spider, 1996, cast 1997, is bronze with a silver nitrate patina. The artist is Louise Bourgeois, American, born 1911, France. Since 1984 she has been developing a body of work with the spider as protagonist. Her spiders appear as looming and powerful protectresses, yet are nurturing, delicate and vulnerable."
