This temple located in Sarnath, north of Varanasi (Benares), is situated near the area where the Buddha gave his first sermon after becoming enlightened. Sarnath was originally the site of a deer park, a remnant of which remains to the north of the site. Also on the site are ruins of monasteries and buildings established by the Indian Buddhist ruler Ashok. A giant stupa commemorates the location of the sermon, and it is typical to see monks and pligrims circumambulating the stupa. Nearby, an archaeologic museum houses relics from the site. A number of temples of various religious orders are also located in the area.
See the Wikipedia entry for Sarnath for more information.
