Inside the Nature Center, you will find live displays of local wildlife- turtles, snakes, local birds, and owls. Outside in cages surrounding the center are eagles, buzzards, owls, fox, and the park favorite - a bob cat.
Hueston Woods has nature-related activities nearly every day of the week until Labor Day. Park staff members lead campers in interactive seminars followed by exploratory trips around the park. A list of activities:
Raptor Rehabilitation (Nature Center). Get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to care for these predators.

Junior Naturalist (Nature Center). For children ages 7 to 14. Participants receive a certificate after completing three programs.

Hooked on Fishing (Sugar Camp fishing pier). Limited supplies of bait and tackle provided, so come early.

Canoe Excursion (Marina). Discover Acton Lake under the guidance of a park naturalist. $6 charge per canoe.

Night Hike (Indian Mound Trailhead). Explore the park under the cover of the night.

Wild Edibles and Medicinals (Sycamore Grove, near Cedar Falls Trailhead). Learn how Native Americans and pioneers survived using elements from the park's forests.

Campfire in the Campgrounds (Indian Mound Trailhead). Storytelling, singing and smore-making.

Stargazing (Class A Campground). Learn easy methods of remembering the most common constellations. Rain location: Nature Center.

Wild Ohio (Resort Lodge lobby). Meet a few of the park's "wilder" residents and learn more about the state of wildlife in Ohio.

Creek Critters (Nature Center). Explore the streams that feed Acton Lake.

I've taken my own children to many of these activities- and we were never disappointed. Our favorites would be the night hikes where we discovered "spring peepers" and "crawdads" in little streams. - and anything to do with the animals. The park staff used to bring the animals to the public beach on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in the summer and teach the swimmers about turkey buzzards, raccoons, and local snakes.
