Tucked in the corner of the only public car park in Hawkshead, are recycling containers for domestic cardboard, plastic, paper, tin cans, glass bottles and clothes and shoes. Domestic waste only.

Despite having a curbside domestic collection, the skips at Hawkshead are regularly filled. Plastic being the most abundant. The area swells with tourists.
There are clothes and shoes collectors for charities. The aluminium is collected in a bin on other side of car park, shaped like a drinks can (N 054 22.448 W 002 59.819). In the square in the village, next to the payphone (visit link) is a dual compartment bin for drinks cans and glass. Too small to waymark and heavily used. Batteries take to Post Office for safe disposal.
