The Dun Building in downtown Buffalo was the first high-rise building in the city. It was once a part of a larger building, but part has been demolished leaving a skinny flatiron building.

The Dun Building in downtown Buffalo was the city's first highrise. It was built in 1895 and was designed by prominent local architects Green and Wicks. It was built for the R.G. Dun and Company, a pioneer in the business of rating the credit of prospective borrowers from New York City. Because of the slenderness of the building, extra steel bracing had to be installed to counteract the occasional powerful winds blowing off Lake Erie.
It appears that there was another building next to the Dun Building at one time based on the unfinished appearance of the south wall. But because that building is no longer there, the west wall comes to a sharp point. It's certainly one of Buffalo's most unique looking buildings.
