St. Johns was the first Orthodox Church in Wisconsin and was founded by Eastern Slavic immigrants, the Carpatho Russian after settling in the area in 1901. In 1906 Peter taras donated two acres of woodland for a church and cemetery. Early burials included members of the Hodowanic and Telischak families. John Telischak (picured) died Sept 13, 1911 age 23 years. Anna Hodowanic (picured) died May 1914 at rest, age 37.
