A lofty 315 feet clock tower is located on the Old Post Office (1899), a landmark Romanesque Revival building, on Pennsylvania Avenue between 11th and 12th Street, NW in Washington, D.C. The clock tower rises to a “hipped roof accentuated by pinnacles at the belfry. Tall stone pilasters support the clock face, which is simply framed by a Roman arch.” Above this, a 270 foot-high observation deck, pierced by large, arched openings, offer some of the most spectacular views of Washington, D.C. The tower’s very large clock can be seen from the street as well as from the nine-story light court topped by an enormous skylight that floods the interior with natural light.
