On Friday 25 April 2008, Field and Trek store caught fire. The main road through Ambleside was closed as fire appliances dealt with the blaze.

Market Cross Development is an arcade and plaza of shops, with outside seating. The fire occurred shortly after 12 noon on Friday 25 April 2008, in the Field and Trek store.
