Along TPWD's Birding Trail, you might find yourself wondering amidst sheds full of chlorine and driving over fountains of sewage. A very different kind of experience indeed.

I would think this facility would be a little more secure than to allow people (me) to wander aimlessly throughout. But I did, through sheds full of chlorine and on the levees between the fountains of sewage. If it didn't smell, you might think you were in the Willie Wonka Chocolate Factory.
What is the capacity of the facility?: 10 MGD (megagallons per day) - peak design capacity
Describe the biological treatment technology used.: “Extended aeration activated sludge process.” Which means, I think, that the fountains allow the sewage to acquire oxygen to support biological growth that breaks the sewage down.
How are biosolids (sludge) managed?: Dried in drying beds, then "hauled off for beneficial land application."
What technology is used for disinfection prior to dicharge of treated water?: Chlorination
Who is the owner/operator fo the facility?: City of McAllen
How is the facility governed?: Governed by the city
What is the website of the WWTP?: [Web Link]
