The belstone ring-cross which is incised on a rough piece of granite moorstone, is thought to date from between 7th and 9th century AD.
The stone was moved to form part of a wall in the original Rectory, which lies about a half mile west of the church. It was a well known local feature and when the rectory was sold in the 1930’s it was moved back to the church, it was propped against the wall of the church. It was moved to its present position in 2005 following research into its origin. The research, the new plinth and the re-erection have been funded by the Dartmoor National Park Authority.
