The oldest parts of St.Oswald's are the 3 Lady chapel sedilila, which are pre 1300 in date.
The church also has connections with George Washington, whose ancestors paid for the building of the new tower in 1480.
The Washington's Coat of Arms was formally on the outside of the tower but was moved inside the church in 1955.
The coat of arms has 2 mullets and 2 bars and resembles the stars and stripes,a family tree of the Washingtons can be seen inside the church.
To celebrate the villages association with George Washington the Stars and Stripes flag is flown every 4th.July.
