This theatre, "the finest theatre in Western Canada", opened on Dec. 24, 1931. Winnipeg architect Max Blankstein used a Spanish mission style with pinkish stucco, twin cupolas and niches with wrought iron railings. The exterior still has most of it's original splendor. This was "an atmospheric" theater with deep blue ceiling pierced with twinkling stars to resemble the nightime sky. A Brenograph projector provided cloud effects, rising and setting moon and even a plane flying over. With a sophisticated air conditioning system, this 1600 seat theatre was advertised in the summer months of the '30s as "Winnipeg's Refrigerated Theatre".
It operated as a movie theatre until 1960 when the interior was basically gutted and it was turned into a bowling alley.
