Bubbling hot sulfur water!

Along the highway between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, as you come around yet one more curve on the road (after all you are climbing a mountain), suddenly there's a market with a large graveled drive and in the center of all the stalls you see steam. But before you even get close the smell of sulfur permeates the air. The surrounding buildings house food and souvenir vendors. Out near the springs some vendors have spread their wares out on tarps to catch your eye while you're watching the bubbling geyser of smelly steam. All the while an old lady walks up and down the length of the drive with a long pole across her shoulders balancing baskets of eggs on either end: eggs for boiling in the hot springs! A very different kind of experience but worth the stop.
