Founded in the 1840s by John W. Lee, a farmer from Kentucky. It had fifteen or twenty houses, frame and log, blacksmith shop, Masonic Hall, church, school and 2 stores.
On March 7, 1862 the Federal battleline was only a half-mile north of Leetown. All the houses within three miles of the field were taken for hospitals.
Leetown was devastated by the Civil War battle. The only remains are a grave of Robert Braden, born in 1864 and died in 1866.
So make it a part of your waymarking stops of this great battlefield.
