In the late 1800's it became a tradition that the first time a ship arrived at this port, the captain would paint the name of his ship on the cliff at dockside. This tradition continues even today.

It looks like now, every time a new captain arrives-even if it's a ship that is already on the cliff, they commemorate it with a new sign.
