The Land that has became How Tun Woods was donated By Barrow in Furness Council in 1999 for the Woodland Trust's project to create 200 new woods in England and Wales by the millennium.

How Tun Woods is situated to the East of the now Landscaped quarry of Ormsgill,the woods were planted for the millennium with,Oaks,Ash,Birch,Rowan,Alder,Holly Hazel,Hawthorn and Guelder Rose.
The woods are free for the public to roam as they please and are very popular with walkers.
