The fire brigade was fully paid in 1912 with fire fighters living there 24 hours a day and paid $70 / month.
The firehall closed in 1973 ending 63 years of service to the city. It was designated a provincial heritage resource in 1975.
In 1989 Budget Rent-a-Car leased the site from the city and spent $1.1 million in renovations.
