Brodick Castle was the home of the Hamiltons for nearly 500 years. Death and taxes saw it passed to the National Trust for Scotland in 1957. The house, garden and grounds are all open.

The grounds of the castle are open as a country park with an acclaimed collection of Rhododendrons. Walks and trails wind through the park. Footpaths lead up the slopes behind up to Goat Fell, Arran's highest peak. The park is open every day and is free.
Royal visits have taken place here, and in the car park you can find a row of oak trees planted by King George VI and the Royal family in 1947.
The walled garden and house are also open 21 Mar to 31 Oct, plus some weekends in winter. Buses go into the main car park (which is up a long drive), or a pleasant footpath (Fisherman's Walk) takes you from the front at Brodick taking a short-cut to Cladach and a pedestrian entrance by Arran Brewery. It's about 1.5 miles from the ferry pier.
