Lancaster is trying hard to promote cycling and is one of six Demonstration Towns in the UK. A new bridge, improved routes, sculptures and good signs have all been constructed in the last 10 years.

The River Lune runs through the city. An old railway line has been converted into a cycle route. At this point, no 14, three main cycle routes converge. A new Millennium Bridge crosses the Lune here.
This is a central junction and routes lead south towards Glasson, east to Caton and west/north to Morecambe and Kendal. Many of the routes here are traffic free. Surveys have shown over 1000 cyclists a day cross the bridge in a summer.
