The 1865-6 restoration was done by Paley and Austin, architects of Lancaster,in the restoration much of the character of the building was preserved including the semicircular arch of the SW doorway, and the 16th.century Tower, which is massively built with walls of six feet thick, and has certainly stood the ravages of time well. source.
