A few miles SW of Whitby,is Goathland,where steam trains pass through on the very popular Pickering to Whitby line,which runs for 18 miles through spectacular scenery of the North Yorkshire Moors national park.

The line is now owned by the North Yorkshire Moors Historical Railway Trust,who have run the line since 1974.
Goathland village is also known as Aidensfield in the long running TV series Heartbeat,many scenes have been shot here for the shows as the TV series is based on the period of the 1960's.

The station opened in 1865 and has hardly altered at all since that date.
