This station was constructed under British occupation of India pre 1947.
The station is one on the huge Indian network. I came into this station from Delhi. Many lines spread out from all Indian stations. Some of them are across country and many are small lines to small villages. Indian railways are important, probably essential, to the people of India.
The rolling stock using these stations is varied. I came into Jodhpur on an overnight, express, air conditioned train where the sleeping bunks were stacked three high with no privacy. Nevertheless it was an interesting ride. The distance from Delhi to Jodhpur is not that great but the "express" train took 13hours. Delays are endemic but the trains actually get there.
Some carriages are "crammers" where people are crammed in, often for many hours. The windows are barred but left open as are the doors. It comes as little surprise that people travel on top of the trains - though I didn't see any of this. As to cost of travel - it depends on who you are and what you are.
All said, now some 4 months later, I look back on this train trip with some nostalgia. And the toilets weren't as bad as I had been led to believe:-))
All Indian life is on the stations. At any time, day or night, the platforms have people on them, wrapped in blankets - and eating food from the many sellers. People wash on them as can be seen on one of the pictures below.
When a train comes in floods of passengers with all their goods pour down the platforms. Porters wear red jackets. They are excellent, They carry all bags to and from the trains 2 or even 3 backpaks at a time.
