Audubon-Pennington Nature Park is a 7.9-acre conservation park that is maintained by the Peace River Audubon Society. The land is a peninsula in the Elkcam waterway, providing cyprus swamps, oak hammocks, and pine flatwoods for local birds and other Florida wildlife.
The park is named after Betty Pennington. Betty Pennington loved life as a student and teacher beginning in Water Valley, Mississippi and ending at Sallie Jones Elementary School in Punta Gorda. She moved to Punta Gorda with her husband Clarence, whom she met and married in Detroit in 1940. Betty went on to teach first grade in Punta Gorda from 1960 to 1968. Betty died at home after a 3-month bout with cancer. A memorial sign to Betty Pennington is fixed beneath the oak tree that was planted in her honor.
The park is open from dawn until dusk.

The main trail is 3/4-mile and is a rough terrain that, while always clearly marked, is not handicap accessible in areas of the path. Directional signs locate specific attractions and benches are fixed periodically around the trail.

Oak hammocks, pine flatwoods, cypress swamps, Elkcam waterway, Giant Oak.

Hiking, bird watching, botony exploration, photography

Thorns, poison ivy, black widow spiders, and steep declines to the Elkcam Waterway are hazards located off the marked trail.
