Situated amongst the bracken of Birkrigg common is Birkrigg stone circle.
The circle dates from BC1700-1400,the height of the stones are from 2 to 3 feet.
The circle is small,and consists of an inner and an outer circle,of Limestone pillar stones.
The circle is easily accessible from the road which skirts around the common where there is ample free parking.
The inner circle which is much more discernible than the outer,consists of 10 stones with a diameter of 30 feet,the outer circle has 15 stones and a diameter of 82 feet.
The circle has a dramatic backdrop which is Morecambe Bay.
