Lochranza is the only village of any size on the north of the Isle of Arran. It is located in a horseshoe shaped bay with large hills on three sides. In the bay is a shingle spit with an impressive castle dating from the 13th and 16th centuries.
Boats and the sea have always been important on Arran, so it is no surprise to find a nautical flag pole in someone's garden.
