The building now known as the Carl Albert Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse was opened December 30, 1914. The building served as as a post office, federal courthouse, and office for the U.S. Marshall, Bureau of Animal Industry, and District Indian Agent. The Classical Revival style building was built for $160,000. The building renamed in honor of Carl F. Albert the 46th Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and a native of the area. The building continues to serve as a federal courthouse and other government offices. The courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

"Carl Bert Albert (May 10, 1908 – February 4, 2000) was a lawyer and a Democratic American politician from Oklahoma.
Albert represented the southeastern portion of Oklahoma (Congressional District 3) as a Democrat for 30 years, starting in 1947. He is most well-known for his service as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1971 to 1977. At 5 feet 4 inches tall, Albert was often affectionately known as the "Little Giant from Little Dixie," and held the highest political office of any Oklahoman in American history."
