Fort Caswell Oak Island NC was started in 1825. It was a Confederate States Fort during the civil war and recaptured by the Union.
The Fort is now owned by Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. We stopped at the gate and requested access. You can get a pass to drive through the fort. Disclaimer: There is no "historic fort sign" as it is now owned and operated by the Baptist church, but they will let you drive through if you request or make reservations to stay there according to their web page.
