Constructed in 1955-56 as a home for an order of Carmelite Capuchin Convent and to provide someone to care for the thousands of graves in the allied soldiers' cemetery. The name Beata Mundi is to honor Our Lady Mary, Queen of the World, which is appropriate since soldiers from so many parts of the world came to this small province in WWII to fight and die. Regina, which also means queen, is to honor Mrs. Regina Welsing, wife of the Dutch Ambassador to Burma (now Myanmar) who donated $7,000 USD to start the church and spearheaded the plans. The small church was renovated in 2006 and is quite lovely despite its small size. Visitors from all over the world come here to visit the grave of a relative or to see for themselves the famous railroad built by Allied POWs under harsh Japanese control. Although a Catholic church in the Ratchaburi diocese, members of all religions are welcomed here to pray for the deceased.
