This Celtic cross is on the side of Main Street, outside St Mary's parish church.

The cross is very similar to K Shoes (
visit link) and Hawkshead's (
visit link) Celtic crosses. They were designed by W G Collingwood.
The inscription reads.
IN MEMORY OF THE 41 MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY AND FREEDOM IN THE WAR OF 1914-1918.
The cross is in a three sided low walled area, beside an entrance gate to the church, and was moved back slightly in the 1960’s to allow the road to be widened. At the same time a new bronze plaque with the names of the fallen from both World Wars, was placed on the wall behind the memorial.
