The Hilo bayfront has been hit by numerous tsunamis, two of the most devasting and documented happening in 1946 and 1960. Where there used to be bustling harbor towns, now stands a memorial park to the great losses of lives.

Not worried about tsunami hitting while you're asleep? Try staying at the Hilo Hawaiian, it sits on Banyan Drive, in this frequently flooded area. When we checked into our room, it sure looked uninhabited...

The first night, I was awoken by bright lights bouncing around the room. I thought at first that these could have been the beams from headlights coming through the window, until I remembered that our room faced the bay...and the curtains were drawn tight. Now, a little more awake...I watched...as these little "orbs" danced throught the room.

I sat up...in awe...then saw the ghostly image of an older man standing by the door of our room. I closed my eyes, and reopened them...and all was quiet and we were alone.

The next night, before I went to sleep, I invited any spirits "with good intentions" to visit. Something woke me up in the middle of the night, and I sat up and looked to the door. There he was again...standing by the door, not completely in our room, with his arms crossed. He looked to be late middle age, with graying hair. He was dressed in a suit, with a silk-looking scarflike vestment...a style I had noticed adorned by the Hawaiian royalty in the 18th century.

I asked if he was here to help me heal (we had had a bad accident, and the sewed my hand back together). He didn't speak, but slowly began nodding his head, and the bouncing orbs returned, only this time closer to my bed.

I fell asleep somehow...and I am glad to say that the hand could have been much worse...

But, I will never forget my nightly visitor. Never did I feel any fear at the site of this ghost...

The hotel DOES NOT mention anything about these extra amenities!

Public access?:
Well, it is a hotel. I know only of the activity of this room, however, the history of the area, and the frequency of tsunamis, it is more than likely, you may have visitors in other rooms...

Visting hours:
My ghost visited me int he middle of the night...
