St.Cuthbert's was founded in 1147,and parts of the Norman architecture, pillars and arches still remain, though the church has been restored somewhat over the centuries.
There are some very interesting old graves stones there, but many are hard to read. A couple of good examples are :
"May we from hence this one thing learn
That death may prove an everlasting gain"
Bearing in mind that some words were spelt differently a century ago, another stone states.
"The broke of death did end my time
to cut me of just my prime
Short was my life, long was my pain
Great was your lofs, much more my gain"
Name of church or churchyard: St. Cuthbert's Aldingham.
Approximate Size: Medium (51-100)
