The porch on which the sundial is affixed is not shown on the ground plan drawings dated 1856 when alterations were made to the church. The porch must have been added by 1879 as porch is shown on drawing of that date when the church had a major re-build. The sundial may have been moved from a spot on the south wall to its present location when the porch was built. It is difficult to see if there is writing on the sundial because of its position.
