FEUERWEHRGERÄTEHAUS is German for "Fire Fighting Tools Storage." It is the fire house of the volunteer fire fighters in the German village of Lehde in the heart of Spreewald – a wetland area crisscrossed by 800 miles of ditches and channels.
This fire house is special for it doesn’t house a fire truck but rather a "Fire Boat", or FEUERLÖSCHKAHN in German.

Most of the Spreewald area is accessible only by boat and the fire brigade has to use the same "road" as anybody else: the channels. We took those pictures while taking a boat ride through the area.

Unfortunately, the house was locked, so we could only get a brief glimpse at the boat but we were able to copy a picture of it at the nearby Gherkin Museum.
