The construction of Ross House is a good example of a Red River frame building. While on Higgins Ave across from the C.P.R. station, it underwent extensive restoration in order to house a museum. The actual building is as much a part of the Museum as the artifacts it contains. It is made almost entirely of oak timbers that were all hand carved. The Museum has an interpretive exhibit as well as rooms set to reflect the life of the Ross family when their home served as the post office.
The museum is operated by the City of Winnipeg and The Manitoba Historical Society. It's open 10am to 4:30pm, Wed - Sun, June - Aug. Admission is free.
