In the market town of Ulverston, opposite the old Hartley's Brewery, is an ex-Catholic church which became the Oddfellows Hall, and is now an antique showroom.

The plaque on the wall says:
"At a time when religious intolerance was abating, Father McHugh built Ulverston's first Catholic Church in 1821. The foundation stones were brought from Furness Abbey and in 1832 a tower was added. Towards the end of the 19th century the Catholic Church required a larger place of worship and a new church opened in Brogden Street."

After the church left it became an Odd Fellows Hall. The building has been much altered but still retains the tower and side windows.

The pictures are looking up Brewery Street to the junction with Fountain Street and the old church building.
