Holy Trinity church of Colton is thought to have been consecrated in 1557 by Archbishop Sandys.
The church was rebuilt in 1600.

The township of Colton comprises of the village of Colton and the hamlets of nearby Oxen Park and Bouth.
The Parish church of St.Cuthbert's is dedicated to the Holy Trinity,and stands on an elevated position high above the farm and cottages of Colton itself.
Inside the porch of the church is an interesting wooden plaque which tells of in 1887 the church was granted £20 pounds for re seating and repairing the seats and declares that the seats are according to law Free.
Outside fo the church is a dismounting block or horse stone for visitors which arrived by horse,the horse stone was built in 1775 and cost 15 shillings for the work.
