[FR] Construite par l'architecte Adrien Fainsilber et l'ingénieur Gérard Chamayou, elle fut inaugurée le 6 mai 1985. D'autres géodes existent en France, mais celle-ci constitue avec la coupole du Palais des Sports[2] la seule géode de la région parisienne, depuis la fermeture de celle de La Défense en 2001. Bien que La Géode ait ouvert ses portes une année avant la Cité des sciences et de l'industrie, elle lui est aujourd'hui rattachée.
Des films y sont projetés au format IMAX sur un écran hémisphérique géant de 26 m² de diamètre et de 1000 m² de surface. Elle fut sonorisée par Cabasse et compte douze points de diffusion du son, plus quatre hauts-parleurs d'infra-graves (subwoofer) de 55 cm et le tout pour un total de 21 000 watts de puissance.
Les films diffusés durent environ une heure.
[EN] La Géode houses France's leading movie theatre, number one by dint of the number of people visiting it, entirely devoted to the projection of large scale films on its giant 1 000 m2 hemispheric screen. It opened on May 6, 1985 and has a seating capacity of 400. La Géode has chosen the OMNIMAX® projection system, the hemispheric version of the IMAX® process.
In 1983 Adrien Fainsilber, a French architect, dreamt up and designed La Géode. Gérard Chamaillou, engineer and sculptor, turned it into a reality.
It's a perfect sphere.
It is fitted with the only 12.1 sound system in the world, designed by Cabasse.
