A narrow lane connects Beck Foot and Lowgill on the west side of the Lune with Howgill on the east side. An old route came through here and continued over the fells. The lane crosses the river on this lovely curved bridge.

A twin-arched packhorse bridge from the 16th century and only just wide enough for a modern car.

"The idyllic surroundings of the Lune at Crook of Lune Bridge are enhanced by the mellow beauty of the 16th century bridge itself. Even motorists who scrape their cars against the narrow parapets, (as many do) will concede the charms of this lovely section of the river, although possibly with muted enthusiasm." A Wainwright.

The Dales Way (a long distance walking route) goes over this bridge, as does a branch of the national cycle network heading for Kendal. This also marked the old boundary between the West Riding of Yorkshire and the County of Westmorland. A marker can be found on the east side of the bridge.

Another 'Crook of Lune' can be found further down stream, east of Lancaster near Caton.
