The East Hartford Cabela store opened October 19, 2007.
The showroom is 185,000-square-foot. It has a huge "mountain" in the two story high center of the store. The mountain is covered with animals in realistic poses (some of them with very striking expressions), among a natural environment. Inside the mountain is a large aquarium filled with different types of cold water fish.
Throughout the store are different types of natural features like the mountain, including a section for African animals.
The animal displays have interesting educational plaques, discussing the animals and their environment.
The store has two stories of outdoor gear. You can find things for hunting and camping, and outdoor wear. There are a places to test your shooting skills, to shoot bows, and a cafe that serves game dishes.
